manic depression

When people discuss bi-polar disorder they refer to a condition known as manic depression. This is associated with unusual and quick switches from a good mood to a sour mood, when someone says wow, they’re bi-polar. It is just another in the many forms of depression. Manic depression is not the same as just being sad or upset for over something in particular. Manic depression is more serious than that. Another stage of depression is the diagnosis for bi-polar disorder. In America millions of people each year are told they are afflicted with manic depression. Depression of some form touches 17 million Americans annually. Two thirds of those people will never seek medical attention or even a diagnosis. If you do not look for help than it is very hard to find a cure. A lot of people refuse to deal with any disease called a mental illness. The negative image of someone who is nuts is just too much for them. It’s very complex when a disease impacts the brain. The stigma of a diagnosis is a hard pill to swallow. But having this disease isn’t a sign of personal weakness. It doesn’t mean you’re insane. This is a disease like any other. If it’s identified it can be cured. The causes of all forms of depression are still being examined in the medical profession. Depression is caused by a wide range of issues. Doctors take into consideration many things such as biological factors, the environment, and DNA. It’s well known that a chemical imbalance can contribute. Depression is also brought about by stress. Every day we confront events in life that cause us stress. It can be problems at work, in our relationships with those we love or facing the reality of trying to survive week to week. Depression isn’t a condition for only them. It can affect the rich and the poor. Race isn’t an issue. Color or nationality provide no protection from this illness. The symptoms for all forms of depression are quite similar. These include mood swings from happy to sad and serious personality switches. Depression can result in insomnia. If you have no hope, feel helpless or desperate, that could be depression. When your ability to function properly at work and at play becomes ever apparent then the possibility of depression is real. There is hope for depression sufferers. You can find help. Doctors can administer drugs or herbal remedies to treat it. Psychotherapy can also help. Support groups can be of assistance with manic depression. There can’t be a cure until help is sought.
