Hi MissKay,

I know how worried you must be, my first panic attack (at the dentist) was truly terrifying and made me scared of having another attack every time I visited the dentist. After years of suffering from this problem I finally found out the best way to stop them, and that was to WANT them to happen! Yes, it sounds weird, but when you try to resist your panic attacks, they will keep coming back (heard of the saying "what you resist, persists"?). When you demand more panic attacks the fear seems to dissolve. This technique is known as the One Move Technique and you will need to learn it properly for it to work. You can find out more about it here:

Hi, sorry to hear of your suffering with panic.

Have include my response to someone else, it is kinda long but hope it helps. I am no doctor or expert, just what helped me. Blessing

I suffered from severe anxiety for years and now I am fine. My doctor said it was the worse case he had ever seen, if I can recover so can you.

I have researched the subject of anxiety and here is what I found and what helped me:

First if you are having anxiety your brain chemistry is off, period. I triggered panic attacks and horrible anxiety when I am was under a lot of stress. I drank too much coffee, ate way too much sugar and began drinking beer and wine.

Street drugs, certain medication can do the same thing. These things over stimulate the adrenals and if it goes on too long will produce anxiety.

If you get too much adrenaline in your system from your adrenals being overstimulated it can cause your brain chemistry to get off track, either too much or too little of the brain chemicals are released and you are off and running with anxiety.

The neurotransmitter GAMA has a lot to do with anxiety.

Anxiety is often genetic in nature. My mom and dad had it.

Anxiety can be greatly helped by Vitamin C because often in an anxiety state the adrenals are exhausted. A good, sugar free vitamin C will help support them. I started with 500mg and worked like a charm. Also a B complex can be helpful as well as a raw adrenal supplement. All of these helped me a great deal when I suffered from anxiety. I simply did not get triggered into an anxiety state when I took the C, it was like a miracle and so simple.

Also I started taking thyroid hormone, Armour Brand in particular it is closest to nature. It contains T-3 and T-4 components, this is extremely important as most of the thyroid supplements are man made and not as effective. Also those who's thyroid levels don't register low enough often still need it. I was one of these people and when I started taking Armour thyroid was so much better, I can handle stress much better. Many people who are depressed, anxious and show symptoms of mental illness have great improvement with a thyroid supplement. I don't mean to go on and on about this but it is something to take a look at.

Also the pancreas gets off track because of the increase in adrenaline and can become extremely sensitive to sugar so watch your diet now. Stay away from sugar in general, coffee, fruit, simple carobs and so on. Processed foods will drag you down now. Because the pancreas affects blood sugar which also affects brain chemistry you can get all sorts of weird reactions. The pancreas actually goes into a spasm and stops working very well, you can get really tired and shaky, spacey and not think clearly. I found that a "Castor Oil" pack on the lower left side of the back where the pancreas lies will help it get back on track, do it for 3 nights for 20 minutes each night. Sounds weird and a bit messy but research it online, lots of info on this.

Remember when the body gets off then the emotions follow. When the emotions get off then the body gets off as well.

I contacted over 450 doctors and alternative practitioners seeking help over a 20 year period. I found someone who could "muscle test" for the exact supplements I needed to balance back. This is a very common practice among alternative medicine doctors and if you can find the right person can work a miracle.

Also NMT or Neruomodulation Technique helped a great deal. Not an ad here but just what worked for me.

Check out Bach Flower Remedies as well, they are amazing.

Pollution, heavy metals, mercury fillings can cause a lot of problems and scientists say we all have them in our systems. They tend to bind to the nerve cells within the body and brain and our systems simply don't work very well then. Make sure and get tested for this.

Many people have an allergy to milk and wheat. We can get depressed and cranky as can affect brain chemistry. Try and eat organic milk and bread, etc.

Sugar, coffee, alcohol, drugs, fast food can cause depression.

A lack of vitamin D and sunshine can affect brain chemistry and make us depressed.

Exercise if you can as it will work off some of the adrenaline.

You can recover and have a great life. Hang in there and don't give up.

Tell your parents what you're feeling. Don't be afraid to talk to them- they love you! They wouldn't leave you in a bad situation if they knew what was going on.

You really should not choose to be alone while your parents are away considering your close bond attachment to your family. Are you in fear that something will happen to your family while you are not with them? Maybe you suffered some danger or injury in your past that triggers the onslaught of the panic attacks? You are a little to young to be alone for 4 days. It really is not safe for you to publicize the fact that you will be alone. There are those that will take advantage of the situation and prey on your youth and inexperience. Please take my advice and either stay with someone or have a responsible adult stay with you. You may find the following information valuable regarding your panic attacks/disorder. Good Luck!

If not recognized and treated, panic disorder and its complications can be devastating. Panic attacks can interfere with a child's or adolescent's relationships, schoolwork, and normal development. Children and adolescents with panic disorder may begin to feel anxious most of the time, even when they are not having panic attacks. Some begin to avoid situations where they fear a panic attack may occur or situations where help may not be available. For example, a child may be reluctant to go to school or be separated from his or her parents. In severe cases, the child or adolescent may be afraid to leave home. This pattern of avoiding certain places or situations is called agoraphobia. Some children and adolescents with panic disorder can develop severe depression and may be at risk of suicidal behavior. As an attempt to decrease anxiety, some adolescents with panic disorder use alcohol or drugs.

There are good treatments to deal with panic attacks that are available outside of a doctor's office. I look at the results of the programs from the people who have actually used them and benefited. Check out this site below with actual audio testimonials from numerous users who have benefited from the program.

Hi

I’d like to give some solid advice to you about panic attacks, and to the others here too advocating all kinds of methods!! There are many dead ends you can go down tryin to deal with this problem. I have a history of them and now I have dealt with them.

When a person has a panic attack they are frozen in fear. This is not cowardice. Panic attacks become a private hidden secret inner prison that destroys a person’s life and self-esteem. A person tries so hard to hide it even from him/herself. Panic attacks come on like a heart attack without a warning. It is a very similar feeling and hard to detect which makes it even scarier. The chest tightens, there is no way to handle the fear factor, the feeling that is paralyzing and comes from out of nowhere. Physical discomfort like a rapid heartbeat, sweating, trembling, hot flashes and trouble swallowing regularly accompany the attacks. Panic attacks usually peak within ten minutes but can last 30 minutes. Sometimes panic attacks can last as long as a day. Many feel very tired and worn out after the attack subsides.

Learning how to stop panic attacks is a priority for the majority of those who have ever experienced them. This is because panic attacks are emotionally, mentally and physically draining. Some have gone so far as to describe panic attacks as emotional nightmares.
Although a doctor is a good port of call first in case there is some health-cause, medications do not always alleviate the panic attacks, especially long term, and those prescribed with anti-psychotic medication are on the road to further problems resulting from the consistent use of chemicals that eventually have a permanent negative effect on the brain.

I am not a doctor or a professional person, but I am a person that lived with panic attacks and have overcome them. I’ve had to read information and misinformation from sources that proscribe to know about panic attacks but they don’t. People give so many varied points of view on how one should deal with them. Persons that have panic attacks not only have to deal with the panic attacks, they have to deal with people who have a lack of understanding and arguments at the same time.

There are now simple techniques you can learn to help you stop panic attacks quickly and easily and eventually cure panic attacks completely. These techniques have been tested and proven through research and actual application to stop panic attack quickly and effectively.

I’ve included a link if anybody wants to really get to know more about these techniques and how to stop the panic attacks completely and for good. I’ve been there so I wish all those on the search the best, and I offer lots of optimism because this affliction can be overcome.

Good Luck :-)

I have read that panic attacks don't respond to therapy or cognitive behaviorism, because they originate in the amygdala and not the cerebral cortex. Therefore, you're limited to trying to shorten them as much as possible.

One way is to use up the adrenaline in your system by exercising until you feel calmer. Most people lie down, and this is counterproductive.

Another is by trying to meditate, but this works only if you are good enough at it to block out your physical symptoms. This is hard for most people.

Realizing that they are a 'false alarm' helps keep you mentally calm.

I've had them on and off for many years. I have never told a doctor about it. I try to breathe slowly as well as actively pursue an activity which will get my mind on something other than myself. That almost always stops the attacks. I still get a bout of them every few months, and it IS difficult and scary, but I also intellectually know that they will pass and more quickly if I do what I stated above. Good Luck

While medication is an effective way to control anxiety or panic attacks, other methods sometimes work for some people, either in concert with medication or alone.

Some non-medication treatments are cognitive behavior therapy, hypnosis, breathing exercises, yoga, acupressure/acupuncture, desensitization therapy, etc. The root seems to be to learn to reconstruct your thoughts to overcome fear.

There are books on the subject which are helpful, and listings online under "panic attacks," including WebMD.com (Panic attack treatment and prevention).

Give yourself alternatives, do some reading, and good luck!
