The panic attack patients try to protect themselves by hiding the problems from their family friends and colleagues, and some time from themselves too. However, such act will not only harm them more, it will strengthen their resists for treatment and worsen the anxiety level, and eventually suffered from more panic attacks!

This can result in social withdrawal, agoraphobia – an anxious condition in which people avoid places or circumstances, for the fear of panic attacks, and avoidance. If not treated, these self-protective walls can close into a point, where the only secure place is to stay at home.

Causes To The Family

Panic disorder also shows certain proofs for genetic predisposition. Thus, if a family member had suffered or is suffering from panic disorder, then other members of that family are also prone to have panic attacks. This happens particularly during a deep stressful period in life.

Effects of Panic Disorder on Family Members

If panic attacks continue to happens, the person is known as having anxiety or panic disorder. During panic attacks, the person would feel extreme panic, fear and anxious without obvious reasons.

When a member of family has panic disorder, the entire family is likely to be effected by the condition. As a result, family members might get frustrated in their efforts to aid the affected member get hold of the situation. They are also likely to overstrain by taking on additional responsibilities, and will be socially isolated.

One should understand anxiety disorder is very common, if the sufferer continues to resists treatment or seek advice from the doctors, family and friends should encourage them to seek help. Only qualified and experienced doctor can help them counter the problems accurately and recover faster. The longer the sufferer waits the more difficult for the treatment in the later stage…

Although, the person with panic disorder might be receiving medical treatment, it is still advisable for family members to provide assistance to help cure the disorder completely. After all, panic disorder can affect the entire family and friend circle.

You need to take precaution steps like relax your mood and calm your mind all the time when your family member is diagnosed with panic disorder. Although studies shows that most people with close relative having panic disorder may not necessary develop such problem, some precaution always help to prevent the unfortunate incident.

Other strategy, as such promoting the affected family member to go at least half way toward a panic attack-avoiding place or situation is also helpful. With all these aforementioned techniques, family members can help the person with panic/anxiety disorder to make quick recovery and can protect themselves too from the condition.
